How the ROI Calculator works
Return on investment measures profit relative to what you put in:
ROI = (Final value − Initial investment) ÷ Initial investment × 100
Total ROI doesn't account for time, so a 50% return over one year and over ten years look the same. When you provide a holding period, the calculator also works out the annualized ROI, (Final ÷ Initial)1 ÷ years − 1, which is the compound yearly rate and lets you compare investments of different lengths fairly.
