How the Color Palette Generator works
The generator converts your color to HSL (hue, saturation, lightness), which makes color relationships easy to compute. Shades and monochromatic palettes keep the hue and vary the lightness. Analogous palettes take hues next to yours on the color wheel, about 30° either side, for a calm, cohesive look. A complementary color sits directly opposite at 180° for maximum contrast, and triadic palettes use three hues spaced 120° apart.
Each result is converted back to HEX so you can paste it straight into a stylesheet or design tool.
