How the Frequency Converter works
Frequency counts cycles per unit of time. One hertz is one cycle per second, and the metric prefixes scale it by a thousand each step: 1 kHz = 1,000 Hz, 1 MHz = 1,000 kHz, 1 GHz = 1,000 MHz.
Revolutions per minute measure rotation rather than oscillation, but they are the same idea counted per minute instead of per second, so 1 Hz = 60 RPM. A motor on a 50 Hz supply turning once per cycle spins at 3,000 RPM.
Frequently asked questions
- Is this frequency converter free?
- Yes. Convert frequency at no cost, with no account required.
- How is RPM related to hertz?
- 1 hertz equals 60 revolutions per minute, since hertz measures cycles per second.
