Text Diff Checker

Compare two blocks of text and see line-by-line differences, instantly in your browser.

How to use the Text Diff

  1. Paste the original text into the first box.
  2. Paste the changed text into the second box.
  3. Click Run to see the line-by-line comparison.
  4. Lines starting with + were added, lines starting with - were removed, and unmarked lines are unchanged.

How the Text Diff works

The diff checker compares the two texts line by line using the longest common subsequence (LCS) algorithm, the same idea behind git diff. It finds the largest set of lines that appear in both versions in the same order; those are shown as unchanged, and every other line is marked as added or removed.

A line that was edited shows up as one removed line followed by one added line. Comparison is exact, so differences in spacing or capitalization count as changes.
