Sitemap Generator
Generate an XML sitemap from a list of URLs, instantly in your browser.
How to use the Sitemap Generator
- Paste the full URLs of your pages, one per line.
- Choose a change frequency and priority to apply to every URL.
- Tick the option to add today's date as the last-modified date if the pages were just updated.
- Click Run, save the output as sitemap.xml in your site's root, and submit it in Google Search Console.
How the Sitemap Generator works
The generator wraps each URL in a <url><loc> element inside a <urlset> using the sitemaps.org 0.9 namespace, escapes special characters such as &, and adds lastmod, changefreq and priority if you choose them.
Google uses lastmod when it is consistently accurate but ignores changefreq and priority. A single sitemap can hold up to 50,000 URLs or 50 MB; larger sites should split URLs across several sitemaps listed in a sitemap index. Reference it from robots.txt so crawlers find it.
Frequently asked questions
- Is this tool free?
- Yes. Generate a sitemap at no cost, with no account required.
- Where do I put my sitemap?
- Save the output as sitemap.xml in the root of your website and reference it from your robots.txt file.
- How many URLs can I include?
- There's no hard limit here, but the sitemap protocol caps a single file at 50,000 URLs - split larger sites into multiple sitemap files.
