XML Validator
Check whether your XML is well-formed and see a friendly error message if not, instantly in your browser.
How to use the XML Validator
- Paste the XML you want to check.
- Click Run.
- If there's a problem, read the error message, fix it and run again.
How the XML Validator works
The validator parses your input with the browser's strict XML parser. Well-formed XML has exactly one root element, every opening tag has a matching closing tag (or is self-closing), elements are properly nested, attribute values are quoted, and special characters like & and < are escaped.
This checks well-formedness only. Validation against a schema (XSD) or DTD, which checks which elements are allowed where, isn't performed.
Frequently asked questions
- Is this tool free?
- Yes. Validate XML at no cost, with no account required.
- What does 'well-formed' mean?
- It means the XML has matching tags, valid nesting, and no syntax errors. This tool checks well-formedness, not conformance to a specific schema or DTD.
- Does my text leave my browser?
- No. The conversion runs entirely in your browser, so your text is never sent to a server.
